In general, Lima Cathedral, despite its architectural unity, has many styles, from late Gothic, Renaissance to Baroque and Plateresque. As of the beginning of construction, the architectural style is Renaissance. However, it is worth mentioning its ribbed vaults and its main cover with plateresque ornaments. The temple has a rectangular plan, emulating the cathedral of Seville. The ceiling is supported by ribbed Gothic vaults that recreate a starry sky made of wood and stucco to ease the weight on the walls and prevent collapse in the event of an earthquake. The two tall slate pinnacle twin towers are neoclassical, with stylistic influences from the Escurialense school and northern Europe. Originally, their altars were baroque, some of them being replaced by neoclassical altars. Coral tents have an eclectic layout, although they have a Renaissance tradition. The Cathedral itself is a perfect synthesis of the architectural styles through which the city of Lima went from its origins to the present day.
The Cathedral Basilica of Lima and the Primate of Peru is the Largest Church of Peru, located in Lima's historic center.
It occupies the same place where was the first great church of Lima. The interior is austere, although it houses true historical jewels, such as Pedro de Noguera's coral tents, various side altars and the remains of Francisco Pizarro.
