Construction began in 1875, in the same place that the old and first temple of the place occupied. For various reasons; one of them the War of the Pacific, the work culminated in 1954, when Manuel A. Odría ruled Peru. This construction was started by the firm Petot y Compañía, a subsidiary of Messrs. Eiffel in Paris, and finished by the firm "Garibaldi Hermanos S.A." inaugurated on August 28, 1954. The material that was used consisted of quarry stone, extracted from the Arunta and Intiorko hills in this city.
The Cathedral of Tacna is located in the civic center of the city of Tacna, department of Peru
From this date work began on the completion of the great building, on an area of 2000 square meters that includes the cathedral itself, and an additional 980 square meters of the underground crypt that is also finished. After 79 years, on August 28, 1954, the construction was completed and it was inaugurated as bishop of the diocese Carlos Alberto Arce Masías.
