4 kms east of Panajachel is the small colorful town of Santa Catarina, of Cackchiquel origin, which can be reached by a dirt road or by water.
It is worth visiting Santa Catarina for its natural beauties and also for its handicrafts.
The women's specialty is weaving and they wear the typical colorful clothes that characterize Guatemala.
It consists of three pieces that are manufactured with the waist loom, whose origin dates back to pre-Hispanic times. The whole dress features colorful geometric figures.
